Finance to Furnishings: My Unconventional Journey Into Interior Design
Born and raised in India, my passion for interiors was sparked soon after I finished school, but life had other plans. I pursued a degree in Finance and spent nearly a decade building a corporate career in Dubai. While the corporate world was challenging and fulfilling, there was always a creative itch I couldn’t ignore.
A Lockdown That Changed Everything
In 2020, during the COVID lockdowns, I moved into a modest, unfurnished studio apartment. With limited savings, I took on the challenge of remodelling it from scratch. I thrifted almost everything from Dubizzle — old furniture, forgotten décor, second-hand gems — and slowly turned that bare space into something soulful and uniquely mine.
I documented the entire process on Instagram, just for fun. To my surprise, people noticed. A professional photographer captured the transformation beautifully, and the photos took off online. Soon, the real estate agent who helped me find the studio began referring clients curious about the design.
A Leap of Faith — and a New Studio
By 2022, I took the plunge and launched my own interior design studio in Dubai. Leaving the stability of a finance job wasn’t easy, but it felt right. Ironically, my financial background became one of my biggest assets. I could manage budgets, timelines, and project logistics with ease — a huge advantage in this high-stakes creative industry.
My corporate experience also taught me professionalism, structure, and the importance of staying composed under pressure — qualities my clients deeply value.
Projects, Progress & Passion
In my first year, I was entrusted with my most significant project: designing a close friend’s four-bedroom apartment from start to finish. There were no freebies or big discounts — just genuine trust and encouragement. That project became a springboard.
Since then, I’ve completed over 30 interior projects — from high-end homes in Dubai to vibrant commercial and office interiors. One of the most exciting? A serene beachfront villa in Tanzania, a reminder of how far this journey has taken me, quite literally.
The Soul Space Design Philosophy
At Soul Space Design Studio, we combine functionality with emotion. As an interior design studio in Dubai, our focus is on clean lines, earthy palettes, warm textures, and design elements that feel timeless and true. Every space is carefully tailored to each client’s lifestyle, culture, and story.
Whether it’s a compact city apartment or a sprawling villa, we approach every project with the same intent: to make it feel lived-in, loved, and unmistakably you.
What’s Next?
I don’t know exactly what the future holds, but I do know that I want to keep creating beautiful, thoughtful spaces — both here and abroad. Through my interior design studio in Dubai, I hope to continue blending creativity with clarity, design with soul.
